Roberto Kolter

Roberto Kolter is the president of the American Society for Microbiology and a professor of microbiology at the Harvard Medical School. Kolter has been at Harvard Medical School since 1983. Kolter's research has discovered communication pathways in biofilms.[1]

Among his recent publications are multiple papers dealing with Bacillus subtilis.

Kolter received his bachelors degree from Carnegie Mellon University and his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego and then did post-doctoral training at Stanford University.

Kolter has been president of the American Society for Microbiology since July 1, 2009 and his term will end at the end of June in 2010.

Kolter also provided the photography for Arthur Kornberg's book Germ Stories.
